چکیده

The antifeedant and antimolting effects of azadirachtins A and B, and of a synthetic derivative, 7-acetyl-azadirachtin A were examined. Given through a blood meal, the effective dose (ED50) for the antifeedant effect ranged from 25 to 30 ng/ml of blood for the three compounds. ATP, a phagostimulant, also given orally, reversed the antifeedant action of azadirachtin A. The ED50 values for molt inhibition were 0.04, 0.015, and 0.45 (ig/ml of blood for azadirachtins A, B, and 7-acetyl-azadirachtin A, respectively. The mechanisms of feeding and molt inhibitions by azadirachtin A B, and its 7-acetyl-azadirachtin A derivative are discussed.

Laboratory evaluation of the effects of triflumuron on the development of Rhodnius prolixus nymph.

Studies were carried out to evaluate the efficacy of the growth regulator, triflumuron (TFM) (Starycide sc 480 Bayer), for disrupting the development of Rhodnius prolixus fifth-instar nymph by oral, topical or continuous treatment. All treatments were able to induce high levels of mortality, delay development and molt inhibition. Oral treatment induced molt inhibition in all insects that surviv...

Repellence Produced by Monoterpenes on Rhodnius prolixus (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) Decreases After Continuous Exposure to These Compounds

Botanical monoterpenes are secondary metabolites present in essential oils produced by plants. Some of them are insect repellents. The bloodsucking bug Rhodnius prolixus Ståhl (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) is one of the main vectors of Chagas disease in the north of South America and some countries in Central America. In this study, we studied the repellence produced by two monoterpenes, menthyl acet...

Lysophosphatidylcholine acts as an anti-hemostatic molecule in the saliva of the blood-sucking bug Rhodnius prolixus.

Blood-sucking arthropods possess a variety of anti-hemostatic factors in their salivary glands to maintain blood fluidity during feeding. In this work we demonstrate the anti-hemostatic properties of lysophosphatidylcholine (lysoPC) isolated from the salivary glands of Rhodnius prolixus. First, we examined salivary glands of fourth and fifth instar nymphs for their phospholipid composition. The...
